CPU Hosts the Biology Teachers Association Regional Convention

Life Science Department, CPU— hosted the 22nd BIOTA WV Annual Meeting and Regional Convention with its theme ‘Internationalization of Biology Education: Challenges and Opportunities with the great assistance of Dr. Stella G. Fernandez, dean of the CAS is the outgoing President who serve the BIOTA-Western Visayas for two terms 2019-2021 and 2021-2023 and Dr Nicolas G. Guanzon,Jr. Board of Director for Tertiary Level.
Dr. Marie Christine Obusan the National BIOTA President was appointed keynote speaker followed by the first day speakers— Philip Ian P. Padilla of UP VIsayas, Miagao, Iloilo—shattered the myth and fallacies of COVID, Dr. Maricar W. Ching attributed of Centro Escolar University speaks about the Home-based Microbiology and Dr. Mary Cherry Lynn M. Dalipe of Education Program Supervisor of Division of Aklan—expressed the Updates in DepEd Science Curriculum in the Anew Normal.
Second day speakers tracked by Marvin Cadornigara of Bronx International School tells the Digitalization of Biology Education in the Global 21st Century, afterward Dr. Resureccion B. Sadaba coming from UP VIsayas, Miagao, Iloilo and Dr. Delsa Gange from University of San Agustin, Iloilo— discussed the sharing best practices in Research, Paulo C. Cabanero, MSc, attributed of CHED Supervisor Region VI shared his insights about the updates in CHED Internationalization Program and lastly Dr. Maricar Prudante of DLSU Manila, National BIOTA Officer— put into words the Adaptive, Innovative, and Effective Pedagonies in Online Distance in Biology Learning.
The said event participated by 50 regular members and 28 associates and held a research poster competition (Senior High and Tertiary category) participated by different schools, colleges and universities from region 6 held last November 26-27, 2021 via virtual zoom- which the tertiary level of Iloilo garnered the positions:
4th Year Biology Students Jewel Gwen Bacaling, Jessa Marie Beboso, Nicole John Forro – achieve the Best Poster (Tertiary Category) Study: “In Vitro Sensitivity of Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Mycoplasma synoviae Against the Various Concentration Levels of Allium stavum Clove, Areta catechu Nut, and Dioscorea hispidaRoot Pure Juice Extracts”
RG Mae T. Carnaje, Collen F. Casanova, Kyla Kris A. De la Cruz – gain Runner-up (Tertiary Category) Study: “Use of Blue Ternate (Clitorea ternatea Linn.) and Karonda (Carissa carandas Linn.) Flower and Fruit Crude Extract and Tannic Acid as Alternative Bacterial Stain”
Leo John Matulac, Prince Edmar Nismal, Hanna Mae Parreño – attained Runner-up (Tertiary Category) Study: “ Parasites in Aquatic Organisms at Sinuhutan Cave, Barangay Onop, Miag-ao, Iloilo”
The total online participants were approximately 146.
